Ann (Athey) McDaniel, 75, of Charlottesville, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. She was born Nov. 8, 1938, the daughter of Tom and Ruth Athey. She graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1956 and attended Ball State University. She soon married James W. McDaniel.
Ann was a member of the Nameless Creek Christian Church and played organ and the piano each Sunday morning. She was a 4-H leader in Blue River Township. Ann ran for the Hancock County Clerk of the Courts and served 2 terms as the Clerk. Also, she ran for the County Treasurer and served 2 terms in that office. She belonged to the Sigma Beta Sorority, a charitable organization, and served in all the offices. She was a member of the American Woman’s Association, the Hancock County Republican Party, and Hancock County Sheep Producers. Ann and Jim served many years in the Sheep Barn at the Indiana State Fair.
Ann is survived by four children, Robert W. (Donna) McDaniel of Charlottesville, Judi L. (Mike) Reed of Cambridge City, Lori A. Hayden of New Palestine and Larry A. (Dixie) McDaniel of Greenfield; grandchildren, Sam McDaniel (Katie List) of Charlottesville, Mitchell McDaniel of McCordsville, Matt Hayden of New Palestine, Jalana (Steven) Stonerock of Lafayette, Clay (Maci) Reed of Terre Haute and Kyle Reed, of Cambridge City and great- grandson, James McDaniel; sister, Joan (Roger) Mast of Carroll, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. McDaniel, whom she married Jan. 18, 1958, at the Christian Church in Charlottesville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2 p.m. at the mortuary. Dr. Jim Carcia will officiate. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Charlottesville.
